Lab Technician

Overview
PURPOSE
Provide concrete and related industry testing focusing on three main areas: research & development, manufacturing control and customer service. In addition, the lab is responsible for the Competitive Concrete Testing Program where all plants and competitors are tested in concrete on a regular basis.
Responsibilities
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
+ Demonstrates a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to safety policies in all work environments and areas.
+ Prepare and mix concrete batches
+ Perform physical testing on freshly batched and hardened concrete (e.g. temperature, slump, air content, unit weight, time of setting, compressive and flexural strength)
+ Perform other concrete related testing such as sieve analysis, specific gravity/absorption on aggregates, heat of hydration (calorimetry), expansion/shrinkage of specimens, air-void analysis, and others per ASTM & AASHTO approved methods
+ Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment
+ Other duties as assigned.
+ While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear. The employee will frequently be required to walk on rocky, irregular surfaces that may be muddy and in reduced lighting conditions. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must frequently shovel for 3 minutes with an 8 lb. shovel, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust
+ While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles, confined space, outside weather conditions, low lighting, artificial lighting, and explosives. The employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, proximity to electrical equipment, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and occasionally
PREFERRED SKILLS
+ Knowledge of concrete materials and associated lab/field testing procedures
+ Knowledge of concrete specifications (ACI ? American Concrete Institute, ASTM ? American Society of Testing and Materials, etc.)
+ Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office (Excel & Word)
+ ACI Concrete Field Testing ? Grade I Certification and/or ACI Concrete Strength Testing Certification
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Required Education: High School diploma/GED
Additional Education Preferred:Associates/Technical Degree
Required Work Experience: 0-3 years
Travel Requirements: None
Required Computer and Software Skills: Strong computer skills in order to operate effectively with company systems and programs; knowledge of SAP and Microsoft office.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
